Brief Description of EDI Module Failure Causes
EDI (Electrodeionization) is the core component of pure water / ultrapure water systems. Instability or failure of the EDI module will shorten the service life and reduce the efficiency of polishing mixed-bed resin. In view of this common industry issue, it is particularly important to strengthen the fault diagnosis and maintenance of EDI modules. Kunshan Jintianyuan Water Treatment Equipment Co., Ltd. is a professional manufacturer engaged in the R&D, production and sales of water treatment equipment, with extensive expertise in the fault diagnosis and maintenance of EDI modules.

Based on years of experience in water treatment equipment, the common causes of EDI module failure are as follows:
Cause 1: If the EDI module operates at high current and low flow rate for a long time, the accumulated heat cannot be dissipated in a timely manner. This will cause the EDI membranes near the two electrodes to heat up and deform, which in turn increases the concentrate pressure difference of the EDI module, resulting in deterioration of water quality and reduction of water output.
Cause 2: If the EDI module is not cleaned and maintained for a long time, calcium and magnesium scaling will form on the EDI membranes and flow channels. This leads to an increase in the inlet and outlet pressure difference, decline in product water quality, rising voltage, and uncontrollable current, eventually resulting in complete failure.
Cause 3: All mechanical equipment requires regular cleaning and maintenance after prolonged use. If the EDI module is not cleaned and maintained for a long time, or not cleaned before being taken out of service, organic fouling will grow on the EDI module and flow channels. This will cause an increase in the inlet and outlet pressure difference, deterioration of product water quality, rising voltage, and uncontrollable current, eventually resulting in complete failure.
Cause 4:If inappropriate cleaning agents and disinfectants are used, the EDI resin will be directly damaged and broken, resulting in an increase in pressure difference, deterioration of product water quality, and reduction of water output.
Cause 5:When the EDI system is operating in manual mode, applying power under water-deficient conditions will directly cause the membranes and resin to overheat and carbonize, resulting in ineffective cleaning and complete failure.
Cause 6:If no filter is installed before the EDI module inlet, the EDI flow channels will be blocked by foreign matter, leading to an increase in inlet and outlet pressure difference, a reduction in product water flow, and ineffective cleaning.
